Power bank users often get
perplexed with the difference between the expected capacity of their bought portable power bank and the actual
number of charges that they obtain for their tablets or smartphones. We look
forward to charging a Smartphone with 2000 mAh battery five times using a 10000 mAh power bank as 2000 x 5 =
10000. However, as a matter of fact, the battery of your Smartphone will get
charged roughly three times only!
A quick rule of thumb is to
believe that the actual world ability of the power bank is 2/3 of the notional
potential stated on the package. So for a quality 20000 mAh power bank, it’ll be roughly 17600 mAh.
Understanding the capacity of a power bank
The cause for this divergence is
that mAh is not a good unit to compute the capacity of the battery when its
voltages and charged devices are dissimilar. Li-ion batteries employed in the portable power bank output 3.7 volt but
the battery of a Smartphone gets charged at 5 volt. Watt-hours or mWH is a
perfect means to calculate the stored energy of the battery as it is
voltage-independent and allows for the total energy of the battery.
So, a 10000 mAh power bank, in point of fact, has 10000 mAh capacity at
3.7 volt. The total energy in such a battery in mWH will be 10000 mAh x 3.7
volt = 37000 mWH. When the output is at 5 volt, the mAh capacity of this
battery will be lower. The capacity of the battery while getting charged at 5
volt will be 37000 mWH / 7400 mAh or 5V.
Now, the question is “How many
mAh should a good power bank have?” There’s no specific answer to it for the
reason that both work the same, however, the actual difference in them is that
the number of times your devices are charged. Both portable power banks have
the capability to charge every type of 5V device, including all sorts of Android
devices, iPods, tablets, iPhones, headphones, or anything else.
10000 mAh power bank has the capability to charge fully in around
six hours, whereas 20000 mAh power bank
can be charged fully in around twelve hours. Both can be charged using a 2A
wall adapter. Both of them have the option for multiple charging outputs of DC
5V – 1A and DC 5V – 2.1A. Now, it is all your take how much your devices are
required to be charged!
